Science Director: Jonathan Walwyn
Background
Jonathan Walwyn B.Sc. M.Sc. PGCE (Oxon), was born and raised in the UK. His father ran the PGCE at the University of East Anglia. His mother was the head teacher of a private school in Norfolk. His sister has worked as an English teacher and his brother teaches Maths and Philosophy. Jonathan is a single dad and Chair of Governors of his son's local school.
Experience
Jonathan has been a Head of Science at: The Edron Academy (Mexico City), Normanhurst School (Essex, UK) and Medway Community College (Kent, UK). His teaching experience includes working at: The English College (Dubai), The British School of Alexandria (Egypt), Hasmonean High School (Outer London) and schools in London and Norfolk. As well as Science, Jonathan has been an a Head of Maths and has taught English and ICT at GCSE. He is a twice short-listed Future Leader and has held a senior leadership responsibility for online learning.
Pedagogy
The product of a failing school, who ultimately attended Oxford University, Jonathan uses his 25+ years experience of science teaching to simplify the curriculum to the core content to achieve top grades in exams. Having worked in the City as a software developer, for a period, Jonathan is pragmatic in his approach to exams whilst being a passionate enthusiast of the subject who loves discussing scientific ideas.
